If you love festivals where there is art, music and activism, the Forecastle festival is the perfect event for you. With its humble beginnings starting in 2002, Forecastle has become a summer favorite earning praise from Nashville Scene and Rolling Stone. The name of the festival derives from the name of the area of a ship where crew members rest after a long day, thus the goal of the festival.

Forecastle is a 3-day event held July 12 through July 14, in Louisville, Kentucky that features both established and growing artists. The events take place in an 85-acre area named Waterfront Park, which is known for its scenic landscape. The focus of the festival is environmental activism, outdoor recreation and the promotion of local and regional artists. Their line-up consists of various genres of bands and solo acts to fulfill everyone's personal tastes in music. The headliners include The Killers, Anderson.Paak & The Free Nationals and The Avett Brothers throughout the weekend. Other acts include: Tyler Childers, Maggie Rogers, Playboy Carti, Portugal. The Man and more. Even previous line-ups of The Black Keys, Outkast, Sam Smith and Beck proves that Forecastle strives to brings in a broader audience to their yearly festivities.

Along with the musical acts, the festival also consists of other features and forms of entertainment. Complimentary bike valets, local food trucks, a Ferris wheel, a unique poster show and even a steamboat yacht club you can join that has cool perks. There is also bourbon lodge where you can try local eateries or breweries. Within the bourbon lodge is a foundation called 'Bourbon Cares', a fundraising program involving Forecastle bourbon brands and the Forecastle Foundation. The Forecastle

Foundation dedicates itself to "educating and funding projects that helps protect the world's natural resources with a focus of biodiversity hotspots", which falls into the activism aspect of the festival. They are partnered with fellow conservation organizations in Kentucky and even a Brazil-based organization.

So, if you're looking for a great time and want to contribute to a great cause, Forecastle should be a stop for you during July. Tickets went on sale earlier this month, but there are still some available. You can do so by visiting their Instagram, twitter or by visiting their website.
