BOWLING GREEN, OHIO- An interstate battle took place at Cochrane Stadium on Thursday night as the BGSU Falcons hosted the Ohio State Buckeyes. The two teams battled last year in Columbus with Ohio State taking the contest in double overtime.
Just over eight minutes into the contest, the Falcons were awarded with a penalty kick after a Buckeye foul in the box. Alberto Anaya was the penalty kick taker, but had his shot blocked by Buckeye Goalkeeper Keagan McLaughlin. The Falcons seemed to dominate most of the first half but the two teams went into the break scoreless.
In the second half, the tide turned as Ohio State was able to respond better to the Falcon attack and create pressure of their own. The Falcons had their share of chances in the second half, outshooting the Buckeyes 10-9, but it was much more back and forth than the first.
With just over ten minutes left in the contest, Amer Dedic would commit a foul inside the box as he was trying to seal the edge on Xavier Green. The Buckeyes were awarded a PK and Laurence Wootten, last week’s Big Ten Player of the Week, buried the ball top shelf to put the Buckeyes on top for good, 1-0.
Ohio State moves to 2-0-1 to start the young campaign while Bowling Green now finds themselves at 0-2-1. Next up for the Falcons are the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor on Monday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. EST.
