After a 20-8 regular season, BGSU volleyball sets their sights on the MAC Tournament.

It will be the first time in two seasons the tournament is held outside of the Stroh Centers since Ball State won the regular season title and will host the tournament in Muncie, Indiana.

BGSU will be the second seed in the tournament. The Falcons have a chance to make history winning two MAC tournaments in the same calendar year.

“It would be special to do it back-to-back this year. We probably won’t ever have a chance to win two championships in the same calendar year. It seems like our team loves to make history,” Head Coach Danijela Tomic said.

The Falcons are entering the tournament coming off some close sets. In their last three games against Ohio and Miami University, they have played 12 sets. The highest win margin in those 12 sets was six points.

BGSU had to crawl through three sets to sweep Ohio and battled in a five-set loss to Ohio. The Miami game was no different as the Falcons scraped by the RedHawks in four sets.

Playing these close sets late into the season has shown the resilience of the team.

“We have the ability to come back from being in deep holes. It makes us tougher,” Tomic said.

The season as a whole has helped improve this team. Last year, the Falcons did not have an out-of-conference schedule due to the pandemic.

This season, BGSU was able to travel and play against high level competition. The challenges came early for this team.

“This seems like years ago, but our out of conference schedule was really tough. That was something we didn’t have in the spring. We got better because of it,” Tomic said.

BGSU enters the tournament with one of the most talented rosters in the MAC.

They have a MAC regular season MVP finalist in junior Petra Indrova. After finishing second in kills last season, she now leads the team this season with 419 kills. Indrova leads the conference in average kills per set.
