On Thursday, two radio journalists and a disaster researcher visited BGSU and spoke on the Flint water crisis.
Lyndsey Smith and Rebecca Williams, both Michigan Radio reporters, explained the timeline of the crisis. The speakers outlined journalism’s role in the crisis, including: reporting, gathering data and researching.
Both journalists endorsed the importance of scientific literacy in journalism.
Disaster researcher Matthew Seeger, who’s also a dean at Wayne State University, broke down the data and methods which scientists used to identify the Flint water crisis.
He warned that what happened in Flint could occur throughout the U.S.
